Mala and Pradeep Sinha are both trained designers from the National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad, and have opened their own showroom in Baroda called BODHI. The name signifies Awareness, which is the underlying strength behind everything that this design couple does.
The textiles and garments in cotton and silk, including printed yardage for garments, kaftans, sarees, and accessories like scarves, stoles, pouches, etc., are all designed and printed at their own exclusive studio-workshop in Baroda. These are designed by Mala and they are both traditional as well as contemporary and have a distinct flavour that comes from a sophisticated sense of aesthetics, attention to detail, quality and excellent craftsmanship. Her sarees and garments are all retailed under the Bodhi brand. Mala has a deep respect for the treasures in textile traditions that mark each region of this country and both Mala and Pradeep always endeavour to bring about the synthesis of existing crafts, talent and skill and adapt these to contemporary applications. Mala’s sarees, odhnis, scarves and dress materials are beautifully hand block printed or hand screen-printed in colours both natural and synthetic and are immediately recognisable as from the Bodhi studio. The July 1, 2001 Anniversary issue of Femina features Mala and her designs amongst the most promising textile designers of this country.
Their retail outlet has moved from Old Padra road to their Studio workshop at Makarpura.
